Code of Conduct
How we show up matters.
Hammer On is built around shared effort, service, curiosity, and respect. Everyone who joins a run, service project, field event, partner gathering, or club-managed online space is expected to help create an environment where people can participate safely and with dignity.
The standard
Strength, effort, competition, humor, and honest disagreement are all welcome here. None of them excuse degrading or unsafe behavior.
This is a field standard, not a values statement. It describes how people are expected to show up, and what happens when they don’t.

- Transportation coordinated by the club
- Partner, host, and volunteer locations
- Club-managed email, forms, and online spaces
- Conduct connected to Hammer On that materially affects participant safety or trust
Hammer On does not control public spaces or independent conduct unrelated to the club.
What we expect
- Treat participants, leaders, volunteers, community members, staff, and partners with dignity.
- Welcome differences in background, identity, experience, pace, ability, and perspective.
- Respect personal boundaries. Get consent before physical contact, photography, or sharing someone’s personal information.
- Follow reasonable safety instructions from event leaders, hosts, land managers, and emergency personnel.
- Choose an appropriate distance, activity, or responsibility — and say something when your plan changes.
- Share trails and public spaces responsibly: keep right, pass carefully, avoid blocking routes, and yield as required.
- Protect partner sites, natural areas, equipment, and community property.
- Raise concerns early when it is safe to do so.
- Leave the place better than you found it.
What is not acceptable
- Harassment, discrimination, hate speech, or demeaning conduct.
- Threats, intimidation, stalking, bullying, or retaliation.
- Unwanted sexual attention, comments, contact, or advances.
- Repeated unwanted communication or deliberate invasion of personal boundaries.
- Violence, encouragement of violence, or reckless behavior that creates a preventable risk.
- Deliberately abandoning, misleading, or endangering another participant.
- Interfering with event leaders, hosts, volunteers, or emergency response.
- Being impaired in a way that creates risk or materially disrupts an event.
- Theft, property damage, littering, or misuse of partner and public spaces.
- Sharing another participant’s private information without permission.
- Knowingly violating event, venue, permit, or land-manager rules.
This list is illustrative, not exhaustive. Leadership may respond to conduct that threatens safety, dignity, trust, or the club’s ability to operate.
The road is shared
Hammer On events happen on public trails, streets, parks, businesses, and partner properties. Preserve public access and follow posted rules wherever we run or work.
No-drop guidance does not guarantee a dedicated pacer, medical support, transportation, or personal supervision at every pace. Event leaders may change, pause, or end an activity when conditions become unsafe.

Report a concern
If something happens that conflicts with this standard, tell us. Reports are reviewed as privately as practical and shared only with people who need the information to respond. Hammer On cannot promise absolute confidentiality when safety, legal obligations, or a fair review requires disclosure.

By submitting, you agree to the linked participant policies. Optional updates consent is separate. See Privacy.
We ask for no medical history, government identifiers, or demographic detail. See Privacy for how report data is handled.
Name and email are optional. An anonymous report is still reviewed, but we cannot follow up for detail or tell you the outcome — and a review may be limited by what the report alone can establish.

Reports, reporters, and participant identities never appear on a public page, in an email digest, or in analytics. Free-text report content is excluded from analytics capture.
How we respond
- Clarifying the facts
- Checking immediate safety needs
- Speaking privately with relevant people
- Coordinating with a host, partner, venue, or land manager
- Issuing guidance or a warning
- Removing someone from an event
- Temporarily suspending participation
- Permanently excluding someone from club activities
- Contacting emergency services or legal authorities when appropriate
What we do depends on seriousness, the information available, safety, prior conduct, and the needs of the people affected.
We do not run a courtroom. There is no public case file, no published outcome, and no promised timeline beyond what the club can actually honor. Group leads are not coaches, medical professionals, investigators, or law enforcement.
No retaliation
Raising a concern is protected.
Retaliating against someone for raising a good-faith concern, supporting a report, or taking part in a review is itself a violation of this code. We will act on it within the club’s reasonable authority.
Policy and questions
A material change to this policy may require participants to acknowledge the updated version before a future RSVP.
