Participant Terms & Risk
Know the work. Know the risk. Make your own call.
Hammer On activities involve physical effort, public spaces, changing conditions, other people, and decisions each participant must make for themselves. Review these terms before choosing to take part.
You choose to participate
- Participation is voluntary.
- You decide whether an event, distance, pace, role, or activity is appropriate for you.
- You may stop or leave at any time — tell the event lead when that is reasonably possible.
- Hammer On does not guarantee that any activity is suitable for a particular person.
Nobody here expects you to push through pain, illness, fear, unsafe conditions, or a personal boundary. Choosing not to start — or choosing to stop — is a legitimate call, every time.
Read the event briefing, look at the distance options, and pick what you can finish. The standard is showing up honestly, not proving something.
Outdoor work carries risk
These lists are examples, not a complete inventory. Risks may be known or unknown and vary by event, route, weather, partner, and activity. Listing a risk does not make an event safe, and leaving one out does not mean it cannot happen.
Runs
- Physical exertion, fatigue, dehydration, overuse, falls, and acute injury
- Weather, darkness, heat, cold, ice, flooding, and poor air quality
- Traffic, road crossings, cyclists, pedestrians, animals, uneven surfaces, and route errors
- Distance, pace, separation from the group, and limited aid
Service Miles
- Tools, lifting, repetitive movement, debris, and environmental conditions
- Transportation and host-site hazards
- Contact with members of the public
- Conditions specific to the service project
Field Work
- Activity-specific equipment, instruction, and terrain
- Water, heights, impact, and remote settings
- Cost, travel, and prerequisites
- Risks identified by instructors, venues, or hosts
Arrive prepared
- Consider your health, fitness, experience, medication, equipment, hydration, nutrition, and weather readiness before you commit.
- Event descriptions and distance guidance are informational — not medical advice.
- Seek appropriate professional guidance when you are uncertain about your ability to take part.
- Do not attend when impairment or a condition creates a material risk to you or to anyone else.
We do not ask for your medical history
An RSVP records your account, a distance, and your acknowledgment. No diagnoses, no medications, no conditions.
If a specific event ever needs limited medical or accessibility detail, that is a separate, necessity-based collection reviewed under Privacy — never bolted onto the general RSVP.
No emergency contact is collected by default — that waits on an approved need, retention rule, and access model.
What group support does — and does not — mean
- Route maps, distances, turns, aid points, and times may be approximate and may change.
- No-drop guidance is a coordination practice, not a guarantee of individual supervision.
- A dedicated pacer, sweep, coach, medic, vehicle, water supply, or transportation may not exist for every group.
- Follow posted turns, the event briefing, trail rules, and reasonable instructions from the event lead.
- Tell the group lead when you change distance, leave the route, or finish early, whenever that is reasonably possible.
The club does not control the whole field
- Events use public trails, roads, parks, businesses, nonprofit sites, instructors, venues, and transportation providers.
- Hammer On does not control all third-party conditions, people, property, services, or rules.
- Follow applicable laws, posted rules, permit conditions, and host requirements.
- Third parties may require separate registration, waiver, payment, or consent.
Hammer On terms do not replace anyone else’s. Where an external requirement is known before RSVP, it appears on the event — not buried here.
What you bring is your responsibility
- Your equipment and belongings are your responsibility.
- Theft, loss, or damage to personal property is not covered by the club, its hosts, its leads, or its sponsors.
- Event cost, travel, parking, and external fees are yours unless an event page states otherwise.
- Gear you bring must be suitable for the activity you chose.
When something goes wrong
Call 911 or notify on-site personnel in an emergency. An event lead may contact emergency services when they reasonably believe it is necessary.
Hammer On cannot guarantee immediate medical support or evacuation. Group leads are not medical professionals unless a specifically identified person is acting in that role.
Emergency services before the club, before the group chat, before a form. Tell an event lead when you can.
Conditions change
- Routes, start times, capacity, activities, and meeting points may change.
- Events may be delayed, shortened, relocated, or cancelled for weather, safety, permits, partner needs, or other operational reasons.
- Check current event information before you travel.
- Refund rules for any paid Field Work event are stated on that event, not here.
Participation requires good conduct
Following the Code of Conduct is a condition of participation. The club may remove or exclude participants under that policy and its enforcement process. The standards live on that page — they are not restated here.
Photos and media
Media consent is separate from these terms and never bundled into the required acknowledgment. If the club adopts photo or video consent, it will be its own optional control with a visible way to decline or raise a concern. Attendance alone is not consent.
Legal terms
Participation in Hammer On Run Club activities is voluntary.
These terms apply to Hammer On Run Club runs, workouts, Service Miles, Field Work, races, volunteer activities, training sessions, meetups, and other club-organized or club-supported activities.
Please read them carefully before participating.

- Acts or omissions of other participants or third parties
- Risks associated with outdoor activities, volunteer work, tools, transportation, facilities, and third-party locations
I understand that these risks may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, property damage, or death.
I voluntarily choose to participate and knowingly assume the risks associated with my participation.
I am responsible for deciding whether I am physically and medically able to participate in a particular activity and for stopping, slowing down, leaving an activity, or seeking assistance when I believe it is appropriate.
Release and Waiver of Claims
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, I release and agree not to bring claims against Hammer On Run Club and its founders, organizers, officers, volunteers, run leaders, event leaders, activity leaders, agents, representatives, and other persons acting on its behalf (collectively, the "Released Parties") for personal injury, illness, death, or property damage arising out of or related to my participation in a Hammer On Run Club activity.
This release includes, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, claims resulting from the ordinary negligence of a Released Party.
This release does not apply to gross negligence, reckless or willful misconduct, intentional wrongdoing, or any other liability that applicable law does not permit a participant to waive.
Personal and Medical Responsibility
I understand that Hammer On Run Club is a community organization and does not provide medical supervision, individualized medical advice, individualized coaching, traffic control, or a guarantee of safety.
I am responsible for my own:
- Health and physical condition
- Decision to participate
- Hydration and nutrition
- Clothing and footwear
- Equipment
- Route awareness
- Traffic awareness
- Pace and effort
- Personal belongings
- Medical needs
I understand that I should not participate when illness, injury, environmental conditions, or other circumstances make participation unsafe for me.
I am responsible for obtaining medical advice when appropriate before participating.
Emergency Assistance
If I become injured or ill during a Hammer On Run Club activity, I authorize organizers or other participants to request reasonable emergency assistance on my behalf when circumstances make that appropriate.
I understand that Hammer On Run Club does not guarantee that medical personnel, first aid, transportation, or emergency services will be immediately available.
I am responsible for my own medical expenses, health insurance, transportation costs, and other costs resulting from an injury, illness, or emergency.
Responsibility for My Conduct
I agree to act responsibly, follow applicable laws and event rules, respect other participants and members of the public, and comply with the Hammer On Run Club Code of Conduct.
I accept responsibility for losses, property damage, injuries, or claims caused by my own negligent, reckless, or wrongful conduct.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, I agree to indemnify and hold the Released Parties harmless from third-party claims arising from my own conduct or my violation of these Participant Terms.
Nothing in this section requires me to indemnify a Released Party for liability that applicable law does not permit to be transferred, released, or waived.
Routes, Locations & Third Parties
Hammer On Run Club activities may take place on roads, sidewalks, trails, parks, businesses, nonprofit sites, volunteer sites, private facilities, public lands, and other locations that Hammer On Run Club does not own or control.
These locations may remain open to vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, animals, weather, construction, changing trail conditions, and other hazards.
Conditions may change before or during an activity without notice.
I understand that participation in an event does not mean that Hammer On Run Club has inspected, certified, controlled, or guaranteed the safety of:
- A route
- Road or trail conditions
- A meeting location
- A facility
- Equipment
- Transportation
- A volunteer site
- A third-party activity
- Any other location or condition associated with the event
Third-party organizations, venues, instructors, service organizations, race organizers, land managers, and businesses may have their own rules, waivers, or participation requirements.
I am responsible for complying with those requirements when applicable.
No Guarantee of Safety
I understand that Hammer On Run Club cannot eliminate all risks associated with running, exercise, outdoor recreation, volunteer work, travel, group activities, or participation in public spaces.
No organizer, volunteer, run leader, activity leader, route description, safety instruction, group assignment, aid station, or other precaution is a guarantee that an activity will be free from injury or risk.
I remain responsible for exercising reasonable judgment and making decisions about my own participation.
Voluntary Participation
My participation is voluntary.
I may decline to participate in an activity, shorten my participation, change my pace, leave an event, or stop participating at any time.
I understand that I am not required to complete a particular distance, workout, task, challenge, or activity.
Applicable Law & Severability
These Participant Terms are intended to be interpreted and enforced to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
If any provision of these terms is determined to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed only to the extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Nothing in these terms waives any right or liability that applicable law does not allow a participant to waive.
Participant Acknowledgment
By accepting these Participant Terms, I confirm that:
- I have read and understood them.
- I understand that Hammer On Run Club activities involve risks of injury, illness, property damage, permanent disability, and death.
- I voluntarily choose to participate.
- I knowingly assume the risks associated with my participation.
- I understand the Release and Waiver of Claims above.
- I am responsible for determining whether I am physically and medically able to participate.
- I understand that these terms affect certain legal rights.
I UNDERSTAND THAT, TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, I AM GIVING UP CERTAIN LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING CERTAIN CLAIMS BASED ON THE ORDINARY NEGLIGENCE OF HAMMER ON RUN CLUB OR OTHER RELEASED PARTIES.
Acceptance
By selecting "I have read and accept the Participant Waiver, Release & Terms", I confirm my voluntary agreement to these terms.
My acceptance may be recorded electronically together with the version of these terms that I accepted and the date and time of acceptance.
A material change may require renewed acceptance before a future RSVP. Unchanged terms are not re-accepted event by event.
